Davina McCall is gearing up to present a bold new dating programme that's set to challenge Love Island. The forthcoming series, titled Stranded on Honeymoon Island, is expected to premiere on BBC One and iPlayer later this year, putting newly matched couples through their paces in ways never seen before.
The show will assemble 12 singles who've struggled to find romance, pairing them off during a speed dating event in the capital. In a dramatic turn of events, each duo will exchange vows and be transported to an exotic island for their honeymoon.
But it won't be all relaxation and tropical drinks. The BBC teases that these new partners will be "isolated and pitted against the forces of nature" on remote beaches, where they'll encounter a host of unexpected trials.
"Fledgling relationships are soon put to the test as the couples live out their honeymoon together and fend for themselves with few resources," the broadcaster disclosed. "Together they must communicate and collaborate to get by, with nowhere to run when the going gets tough. Will an escape from modern life bring them closer together or push them apart? Will it lead to love or loathing?"
Having hosted StreetMate, Singled Out, and more recently, My Mum, Your Dad, Davina is no novice when it comes to playing cupid. This time, she'll take on the role of both presenter and mentor for the marital pairs, reports the Mirror.
Davina expressed her excitement about the new BBC dating show, saying: "I am a serial matchmaker... So I jumped at the chance to host the BBC's new dating show. I can't wait to meet our couples and find out how they get on when they're Stranded on Honeymoon Island. For some it will be challenging and others, idyllic!!! Hopefully it's the start of some very beautiful relationships."
Kalpna Patel-Knight, the Head of Entertainment at BBC, lauded McCall as "the ideal addition to this bold and innovative dating reality show" and described her as "the perfect guide for viewers as the couples embark on the love story of a lifetime". The forthcoming series, produced by CPL Productions, known for Married at First Sight UK and Love is Blind UK, promises 12 hour-long episodes.
Last year, McCall shared news of her surgery to remove a benign brain tumour and has since kept fans updated on her recovery progress. She expressed gratitude for the support received: "Every day I feel stronger and stronger. I just wanted to say thanks for all of your support, it meant the world to me and my family."
