When the Washington Commanders acquired All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers, the organization was hoping to pair the veteran wideout with a young and up-and-coming quarterback.
Of course, Samuel was already in that situation with the 49ers.
And now the 49ers old quarterback has received a hefty five-year, $265 million contract extension in part thanks to players like Samuel over the last few years.
49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy agreed with the 49ers on a contract that pays him on average around $53 million over the course of the deal.
Purdy has been to a Super Bowl once, been to two conference title game appearances, and is 23-13 as a starter.
And despite several analysts wondering about the legitimacy of the 49ers' signal-caller as a star in the league, Samuel continues to show love to both Purdy and San Francisco.
Taking to social media, the new Commanders wide receiver congratulated Purdy with a 4-word note of celebration.
“Congrats brother, well deserved,” he posted.
Samuel reached All-Pro status in 2021 but struggled with injuries over the last few years. While he has never been the bets route-runner, Samuel is expected to jump right into Washington's offense and be an immediate contributor.
With Terry McLaurin as the team's top wideout, and Jayden Daniels throwing the football, the Commanders believe they can get Samuel to play at a high level once again.
At the very least, Washington should feel good about the work Samuel was able to do with Purdy before.
