Defying The Odds: Atlanta Falcons Roadmap To Playoff Triumph

The Atlanta Falcons are undoubtedly looking for a bounce-back season in 2025. Things went slightly south after starting 6-3 with Kirk Cousins at the helm. The Falcons would lose four straight games and 6 of their next eight games. Before the downfall, fans were optimistic about this team going into the season and the drought that has plagued them. Having not made the playoffs since 2017, the diehard fans expected a playoff birth.

The pessimistic tendencies started to creep in, and doubt/blame would be placed on Kirk Cousins, Raheem Morris, and Terry Fontenot. On a positive note, the second-half collapses looked like a thing of the past. But the defense did falter down the stretch. So, with the draft looming and Kirk Cousins more than likely walking. What will it take to get over the hump and get the Falcons back to prominence?

The Falcons must find a way to get Tight End Kyle Pitts more involved in the offense. His 196 catches for 2,651 yards and only 10 touchdowns since 2021 are problematic. Should the Falcons get Pitts more involved or let him walk?

Atlanta will also look to the draft to fill the need for an edge rusher to improve the pass rush. All signs point to Michael Penix being "The Guy" to lead the offense in 2025. The following month or two will clarify what route Kirk Cousins takes.

After adding some depth to the defensive line and filling the void across from AJ Terrell, the Falcons will look to head into 2025 and beyond as a perennial playoff team. Also, bringing in a veteran-ish backup quarterback to the mix will help give Michael Penix the veteran mentorship needed to succeed. Adding depth is key for Atlanta to stop the drought of not making the playoffs since 2017 and to try to get over the hovering debacle that was 28-3 in the Super Bowl against New England.
