Red Wings ink two-year deal with Czech goalie prospect Michal Postava.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Michal Postava to a two-year entry-level contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old netminder arrives in North America after a standout season in the Czech Extraliga, where he backstopped HC Kometa Brno to a championship.

Postava, born February 28, 2002, in Valašské Meziříčí, Czech Republic, stands at 6-foot-1 and catches left. He emerged as one of the top goaltenders in the Czech league this past season, posting a 23–18 record across 42 regular-season games. His strong numbers included a 2.39 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

When the playoffs arrived, Postava elevated his game even further. In 17 postseason appearances, he compiled a 10–7 record along with an outstanding 1.97 GAA and a .940 save percentage. He was instrumental in Kometa Brno’s title run, capping the season with a 21-save shutout in Game 7 of the Extraliga Final.

The likely plan for Postava is to begin his North American career in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, where he’ll continue developing. With his proven ability to perform in high-stakes moments and a mature, composed presence in goal, Postava could find his way move up Detroit’s goaltending depth chart.

Adding a player of Postava’s caliber marks a key move for the Red Wings as they continue to build for the future with some depth in net.
