The connection between Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Khalil Shakir has been something to marvel at this season with the pair on a superb wavelength as the offense has continued to roll.
But against the New England Patriots, in a 26-24 win at Highmark Stadium, that trusted connection between the pair had vanished. To the point where Shakir was targeted four times, for zero catches. That isn't what we've come to expect.
But in the fourth quarter, when the Bills needed something to happen, Allen continued to look Khalil's way and hit him for 10 and 12-yard completions on one drive, and No. 17 has detailed why, after a poor start, he continued to look Shakir's way.
"He's as consistent as always," Allen said. "I'm never going to drop my head or have any doubts when I'm throwing him the ball, that goes for all the guys so again something that we'll keep working and I got nothing but trust in all those guys."
Shakir would have just two receptions for 22 yards, plus a fumble in the win over the Patriots, which was one of his worst games of the season.
But it goes to show the trust that has been built between him and Allen, that when things get tight in the fourth quarter, despite Shakir being targeted four times and not having a catch, Allen still had the confidence to look his way.
With the Bills in a great position to go on a deep playoff run, Allen and Shakir's connection might be key in the franchise finally breaking through in the postseason.
