Early Season Offensive Outbursts Continues To Be VGK Staple Under Bruce Cassidy

Through two games, the Golden Knights look like an offensive juggernaut. They’ve scored 12 goals including the top line accounting for 17 points in just six periods of action. It’s the hottest offensive start in franchise history, but it’s not necessarily a new phenomenon since Bruce Cassidy took over as head coach.

Under Cassidy, Vegas has averaged nearly four goals per game in the first 15 games of the season. In his first season, VGK posted 57 goals in their first 15, they raised the bar in his second year with 58, and now with 12 in two games, they are well on their way to another excellent start.

Pete DeBoer and Gerard Gallant had decent success to start seasons, but their teams did not come out firing offensively like Cassidy’s have.

First 15 Games

23-24: 58 GF, 32 GA
22-23: 57 GF, 34 GA

20-21: 45 GF, 37 GA

19-20: 49 GF, 45 GA

17-18: 52 GF, 44 GA

"It’s never easy to score in this league. But, it’s early in the season and guys are getting their legs under them and getting comfortable still so maybe you see a little bit of looser play but it tightens up quickly." -Eichel

Scoring is up around the league to start the year. 11 of the 32 teams are scoring at least four goals per game through the first week of the year, and history tells us it will likely continue through October.

"You’ve seen some high scores in a lot of games so far. I’m not sure exactly what that entails but we’re taking advantage of it and at the same time stop it on our end." -Theodore

Cassidy doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence his teams get off to good starts.

"I’d like to think we’re prepared. Usually, that’s a product of having a good camp." -Cassidy

Unfortunately, the scoring really slows down as the season wears on for VGK. In the second 15 games of the season, the scoring has dropped from 3.8 goals per game to 2.9. So, taking advantage of it now is paramount for the Golden Knights.

Vegas is now 6-0-0 in their first two games of the season under their third head coach. Last year and the year before they won game three as well, so, get ready for some more fireworks tomorrow night with Anaheim coming to town.
