Easton Cowan completed one of the most decorated major junior hockey careers in recent history, after winning the Memorial Cup with the London Knights. Cowan was named Memorial Cup MVP, capping off a tenure where he won two OHL titles, an OHL playoff MVP and led the Knights through a dynastic run.
The 20-year-old is the Toronto Maple Leafs’ top-ranked prospect and all eyes will be on him at training camp in the fall. Cowan joined Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill on Friday’s edition of Leafs Morning Take to outline what lies ahead.
“Every kid in my situation would probably say to make the NHL, and that’s definitely my goal,” Cowan said to Alberga and Rosehill. “I mean, I feel like I’m capable of doing that. I just got to keep getting bigger, keep getting faster, and keep getting stronger. It’s just in my hands. I feel like I’m smart enough and able to play, but obviously, I got to get bigger and that’s just in my hands. I’ll take advantage of that this summer, training in London, training a bit in Toronto too. It’ll help me out a lot and I’m just super excited for camp, and I’ll be ready for it for sure.”
Cowan recorded 29 goals and 69 points in 46 regular season games with the Knights, before adding 13 goals and 39 points in 17 postseason games. He’ll be afforded a real chance to crack the Maple Leafs’ lineup as the team looks to alter their DNA and make changes to the forward corps ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Now that Cowan has captured the Memorial Cup and wrapped up his major junior career, he’s going to get some much-earned rest and relaxation before locking into his goal of making the Maple Leafs in the fall.
“They want me to just relax now. Enjoy the time. Have some fun. And just get away from the game. It’s been good for me. I mean, I’ve went on three long runs here with London, so just to be able to put the hockey sticks away, pull out the golf clubs, go to some patios with some friends, and just really enjoy my time, and get some food with people I haven’t saw in a while, it’s been huge.
