Easton Cowan Recreates Patrick Kane's Overtime Stanley Cup-Winning Goal

Current Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane will forever be known not only as arguably the greatest American-born forward in NHL history, but for scoring one of the most iconic Stanley Cup-winning goals in hockey history.

While Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has a ways to go in his professional career before he can reach Kane's status, he did a good job of recreating the infamous 2010 Cup winner this weekend while with the OHL's London Knights.

Cowan cut down the left wing wall, turned to the inside, and buried a low shot past the Windsor Spitfires goaltender from a severe angle; it was eerily reminiscent of Kane's winner against Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton.

It turned out to be one of the most anti-climactic Cup-winning goals, as only Kane knew that the puck crossed the goal line immediately. His teammates cautiously celebrated with him, not fully convinced that they were the new champions.

The incident had to be reviewed, and replays confirmed that the puck did in fact barely make it over the goal line and then buried in the side of the net in the blink of an eye.

Cowan was the 28th overall pick by the Maple Leafs in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, the team that he grew up as a fan of; Mitch Marner and now-former Leafs forward Nazem Kadri were his favourite players.

Cowan has an impressive 68 points (29G, 39A) in 45 games, and it won't be long before he's challenging for a spot on the Maple Leafs' roster, and is now firmly set as the team's best prospect heading into the 2025-26 season.
