Ex-Bruins Star Should Thrive With Canucks

Jake DeBrusk should find success with the Canucks next season.

The start of free agency was big for the Boston Bruins. They landed two big fishes in Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov while also adding to their depth. Overall, they made moves needed to help improve specific areas of their roster.

However, they also suffered a big loss, as Jake DeBrusk signed a seven-year contract with a $5.75 million AAV with the Vancouver Canucks. DeBrusk's departure was expected, but he will still be missed by the Original Six club.

DeBrusk has all the potential to thrive with the Canucks. When looking at their roster, it is pretty clear that he will have a top-six role, as he is now one of their best wingers. In addition, whether he has Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller as his center, he will have an elite playmaker distributing him the puck. This should benefit a sniper like DeBrusk quite nicely.

Furthermore, after landing this long-term deal, DeBrusk has excellent job security. This should make things easier for the 2015 first-round pick, as he spent this season uncertain about his future in Boston.

On paper, there appears to be a great match between DeBrusk and the Canucks. We must wait and see what kind of year he puts up for them from here.
