If Kirk Cousins resents QB Michael Penix Jr. for being the Atlanta Falcons’ first-round pick, he apparently is not showing it.
Penix discussed working with Cousins on Friday as he started his first day of rookie minicamp. Penix said Cousins has been nothing but cordial so far and that the veteran quarterback offered his help to the rookie.
“He said ‘What’s up, man?'” Penix said, via Charles Odum of the Associated Press. “He said he was happy to see me, happy to have me here. I just told him I can’t wait to work with him.”
Penix added that he felt “super blessed” to be able to work as Cousins’ backup and that the two ultimately had the “same goals” of helping the team win.
For Cousins, it is probably nothing personal when it comes to Penix, though reports have made it quite clear that he was not exactly thrilled that the Falcons used a high draft pick on a quarterback just months after he signed a four-year contract with the team.
Penix will presumably be sitting on the bench for a while. Cousins cannot be faulted for peering over his shoulder, however, since the organization certainly seems eager to invest in the rookie.
