Sandström started his career when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in Round Three, 70th pick overall. In the 2019-2020 season, Sandström played most of the season in the ECHL with the Reading Royals. He went 13-11-1 with a 3.27 GAA and a .885 Save Percentage. When teams went back to play for the 2020-2021 season, Sandström played 11 games in the AHL and went 5-3-4 with a 3.19 GAA and .903 Save Percentage.

The 2021-2022 season proved to be Sandström’s season to shine in the AHL with playing time. He dressed in a total of 44 games and went 16-18-6. He posted a 2.89 GAA and a .911 Save Percentage. Sandström also played in five games for the Flyers and went 0-4-1 with a 3.23 GAA and .910 Save Percentage that year.

In the 2022-2023 season, Sandström dressed in seven games for the AHL and posted a 2.39 GAA and .911 Save Percentage after going 4-1-2. He dressed in 20 games for the Flyers during that season and went 3-12-3 after posting a 3.87 GAA and .880 Save Percentage.

During this past season, Sandström played in a total of 24 games for the AHL Affiliate, Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and posted a 3.15 GAA and .884 Save Percentage after going 13-7-3. He dressed in five games for the Flyers and went 1-2-0. He had a GAA of 3.87 and a Save Percentage of .823 during those games played.
