Flyers Should Make Big Move With Rising Star

Earlier this offseason, the Philadelphia Flyers made a big move, signing star forward Travis Konecny to an eight-year, $70 million contract extension. They also signed Garnet Hathaway to a two-year extension this summer and Owen Tippett to an eight-year extension during this past season, so it is clear that GM Daniel Briere is not afraid to lock up his key players early.

When looking at the Flyers' roster, it is apparent that they have more players who are extension candidates. Defenseman Cam York is undoubtedly one of them, especially after his career-best season in 2023-24.

York, 23, had a strong season for the Flyers this past campaign, as he set new career highs with 10 goals, 20 assists, and 30 points. In addition, the 2019 first-round pick was impactful with his defensive play, recording 76 hits and 174 blocks on the campaign. Overall, it was a big step in the right direction for the Anaheim, California native, and he should only continue to get better as he builds on his experience.

When noting that York has shown strong signs of improvement and has top-pairing potential, the Flyers should consider the prospect of signing him to a contract extension with term. There is no question that he has the tools to be an impactful defenseman for several years to come, and he has not hit his ceiling yet.

Nevertheless, it will be very interesting to see if the Flyers work quickly and get York signed to an extension before his current deal expires at the end of next season.
