Monday’s press conference with the always well-spoken Garnet Hathaway was a delight, as I’ve come to expect. The Philadelphia Flyers’ spark plug shared some insight as to why he decided to extend his stay in Philly so soon.

And while Hathaway mostly spoke about his own situation and contract dealings, he did hint that Matvei Michkov might be touching down in North America soon.

Speaking of Michkov, the Flyers can learn a little bit about player development and team building from Spain, the 2024 UEFA European Championship victors. Lamine Yamal, the star of the show, only turned 17 a few days before the big game.

Lamine Yamal didn’t win the game by himself, of course, as he had a hearty mix of veterans, players making comeback bids, and fellow young stars playing alongside him, looking to make their mark on the game they love.

In case you missed it, the Flyers are the de facto toughest team in the NHL. Veteran winger Nick Deslauriers played a big part in the prestigious honor, given the fact that he won all 11 of his fights in 2023-24 and accounted for nearly half the Flyers’ fights in total.

Where will star KHL goalie Ilya Nabokov play in 2024-25? The Colorado Avalanche’s 2024 second-round pick has another year left on his KHL contract, and it’s not impossible that he comes over now.

Nabokov’s agent, Shumi Babaev, says the Nabokov camp will make a decision soon, but quietly, Babaev believes the 21-year-old will need at least another year before being adequately prepared for the North American game.
