It is a good thing that Corey Perry won a Stanley Cup early on in his career because he has lost in the Stanley Cup Final in five consecutive appearances and in five of the past six seasons. Since the Chicago Blackhawks parted with him, he's made it to back-to-back finals with the Edmonton Oilers, first losing in seven games last season and in six games this season.
This wouldn't still be a narrative if things didn't go sour with the Blackhawks near the beginning of last season. But since he joined the Oilers, he has been great and a very effective player for really cheap. There's a good chance that he stays there at least another year. He is continuing his playing career either way.
In 17 playoff appearances, Perry has 64 goals and 141 points in 237 games. At age 40, he just tied his playoff high in goals with 10 and recorded his third-best playoffs point-wise with 14.
There was a major difference in the Perry we saw this year compared to last as he only had one goal and three points in 19 games in 2024, even being a healthy scratch. He had to step up in a big way when Zach Hyman went down with an injury in these playoffs, playing on the top line most of the time and on the top power-play unit.
Perry is in a much different role than he would have been in Chicago and got some great opportunities to once again hoist the Stanley Cup.
