Former Buffalo Sabres Prospect Finds New Home

This former Sabres draft pick has officially found a landing spot.

Former Buffalo Sabres prospect Mats Lindgren has found a new home, signing an AHL contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Lindgren, 19, was selected by the Sabres with the 106th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. However, he became an unrestricted free agent this summer because the Sabres did not sign him to an entry-level contract by the June 1 deadline. Now he is with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton because of it.

Lindgren put together a solid season with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, posting seven goals and 41 points in 63 games. Overall, it was another good campaign from the 6-foot defenseman, and he will now look to build off it in the AHL from here.

Lindgren's goal will be to impress while with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. If he does, he could eventually land an official entry-level contract with Pittsburgh. Time will tell what happens on that front, but he is officially getting his professional hockey career started.
