Pierre-Edouard Bellemare

With the NHL regular-season rapidly approaching, teams around the league are starting to trim their training camp rosters significantly.

The Colorado Avalanche have followed this trend, as they announced today (Oct. 3) that they released former Philadelphia Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare from his professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Bellemare, 39, was fighting for a spot in the Avalanche's bottom six, and it seemed possible that he would earn a deal based on his solid defensive play and leadership qualities. However, the Avalanche have decided to go in another direction with the veteran forward.

Bellemare began his NHL career with the Flyers during the 2014-15 season. In 237 games over three seasons as a Flyer, Bellemare had 17 goals, 34 points, 259 hits, and a minus-12 rating. His time with the Flyers ended when the Vegas Golden Knights selected him at the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
