Former Montreal Canadiens Enforcer Trains Rangers Player

Georges Laraque was a feared pugilist in the NHL. Since retiring, he's done various things but this week, he's doing what he's best at; training other enforcers in fighting on ice.

Georges Laraque fought his way through 13 seasons and 695 games in the NHL racking up 1126 penalty minutes. A second-round pick by the Edmonton Oilers at the 1995 Draft, he suited up for four NHL teams including the Montreal Canadiens.

Laraque never really wanted to play for the Canadiens, he told The Gazette in 2018 that when he signed a three-year contract with Montreal, he did it for his mother. He explained he wasn't keen on his hometown team because the organization didn't like players who spoke their mind.

Since retiring, he's been a politician, an activist, a vegan, a sports cards store owner, but the role in which he excels at is training NHL player how to fight on the ice. He's done it with Canadiens' players in the past, but this week, he's teaching New York Rangers tough guy; Matt Rempe.

Rempe burst onto the NHL scene earlier this year, playing 17 regular season games with the big club. So far, he has two points to his name and 71 penalty minutes. In the playoffs, he skated in 11 games and picked up 10 penalty minutes.

Judging by the fact he hired Laraque to train him this Summer, he is planning to terrorize enforcers league-wide this upcoming season. The last time the Rangers played the Canadiens, Arber Xhekaj wasn't dressed having been shut down to receive shoulder surgery. Something tells me the two men will certainly cross paths sooner rather than later.
