Former Sabres Defender Signs With New Team

This former Buffalo Sabres defender has landed a PTO.

Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Mark Pysyk has signed a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the Anaheim Ducks.

When looking at the Ducks' defense, it is understandable that they are taking a look at Pysyk. There is no question that they could use more depth on their blueline, so giving Pysyk a shot with a PTO could be worthwhile. If he earned a contract with Anaheim, he would be a good veteran for the rebuilding squad to have for their youngsters.

Pysyk, 32, spent the entirety of this past season at the AHL level. In 37 games split between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Calgary Wranglers, the 6-foot-1 defenseman recorded four assists and a minus-4 rating.

Pysyk's return to the ice last season was notable, as he missed the entirety of the 2022-23 season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. During that campaign, he was under contract with the Detroit Red Wings but never appeared in a game for the organization.

The Sabres certainly know Pysyk well, as they selected him as the 23rd overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In five seasons as a Sabre over two stints, the Sherwood Park, Alberta native had eight goals to go along with 38 points in 193 games.
