Fans who were anxious to see Gabe Perreault play for the New York Rangers next season will have to wait a little bit longer.

Perreault is currently in New York for development camp and while talking to the media, he revealed his plans for this upcoming season to remain at Boston College.

“I honestly haven’t really thought about that too much,” said Perreault. “[I’m] just focused on another big year at school, trying to focus there, have a good season, and hopefully win a national championship. And then when that time comes, I’ll probably discuss it with my family, my agent, obviously the Rangers, see where they think I’m at and most importantly where I think I’m at and then I’ll make a decision from there.”

The Rangers selected Perreault with the 23rd pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, with many saying the young forward should have gone higher in the draft.

In 36 games with Boston College last year, the 19-year-old recorded 19 goals, 41 assists and 60 points.

He was third in the nation averaging 1.67 points per game, only trailing 2024 first overall pick Macklin Celebrini.

“He had a heckuva season, was impressive to watch, fun to watch,” Rangers director of player development Jed Ortmeyer said. “I think he’s a player we’re excited about.”

Given all the excitement surrounding Perreault, it’s hard to stay patient, but another year at the collegiate level will certainly help his development and make him more ready to play for the Rangers when the time comes.
