Garrett Crochet Sends Message as Red Sox Make Big Change

On Tuesday night, Garrett Crochet and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-2. With this win, Boston has now secured seven consecutive victories, the longest active winning streak in the majors. Furthermore, they are 9-1 in their last 10 and currently own the first AL Wild Card spot.

After the win, Crochet spoke about getting a little bit of extra rest between starts, whether it be due to appearances just being pushed back, limited, or skipped altogether. In doing so, he sent one clear message: he is "looking forward to continue to stack wins."

"Arm's been feeling really healthy, so just looking forward to continue to stack wins," Crochet said after Tuesday's victory.

Fortunately for Crochet and Red Sox fans, it seems that the team is not planning to skip any more of his starts. After Tuesday's win, manager Alex Cora made it clear that the 26-year-old will be a full go the rest of the way as Boston aims to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021 (h/t Jake Roy of NESN).

“I think this is the last time we’re going to skip a start,” Cora said. “From now on, we’ll use the off days to our advantage, but I don’t think we have to do it now… I think for everybody now, we’re good. Shake hands, and this is what we’re gonna do. We’ll just let him go.”

Garrett Crochet Has Greatly Elevated the Red Sox

Back in December, Boston acquired Crochet from the Chicago White Sox for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Wikelman González, and Chase Meidroth. Though the Red Sox gave up some intriguing players, particularly Teel, they are likely happy with the turnout so far.

Through his first 23 starts with the Red Sox, the Mississippi native has a 2.24 ERA and was named an All-Star. Additionally, he leads the majors in wins (13), innings pitched (148.1), and strikeouts (183).

Crochet has been an exceptional addition to the Red Sox, and he has been crucial to their success. Furthermore, he is expected to be a major player in Boston for a long time as he signed a six-year, $170 million contract extension back in March.

The future is bright for the Red Sox, especially with their Ace already locked up for the long run. Boston is on pace to make it back to the postseason for the first time in four years, but nothing is official yet. However, if they can end the season on a high note, they should be able to stop that trend and compete for another World Series title.
