So far this season, the Vegas Golden Knights are once again looking like a team to be reckoned with, but the young franchise is not without a hole in its armor.
The Golden Knights (8-3-1) are one of the hottest teams in the league, winning five of their last six games. They are tied atop the Pacific Division in points (17) with the Los Angeles Kings, and have the best winning percentage (.708) as well. They also have the second-most goals scored among any team in the NHL (54) only trailing the Winnipeg Jets.
However, the play between the pipes is leaving more to be desired. Adin Hill might have won five of his seven starts thus far, but he has looked far from the guy who played an intricate part in helping Vegas win its first Stanley Cup two years ago. The 28-year-old has given up at least three goals in all but one start, allowing four goals four times. He has an eye-popping 3.15 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage, with one shutout.
It hasn’t been like Hill has a crazy workload, as he has only over 30 shots twice this year.
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, SinBinVegas’ Ken Boehlke joined Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli to discuss Hill’s woeful performance so far this season.
Ken Boehlke: It’s been okay to not quite good enough. I think when they play well in front of him, he’s going to get the job done, and he’s proven that over the course of time. Certainly, the years in the playoffs, the year they made the run to the Cup. He was even pretty good in a couple of games in the back of the Dallas series last year.
When things fall apart in front of him, and their rush defense hasn’t been very good, they haven’t been exiting the zone quite as well as they typically do, he’s not the type of guy that’s going to bail you out and I think that’s where you start to see kind of why he was passed around the league a little bit before he got to the Golden Knights…It hasn’t been as bad as some of the numbers say…but he certainly hasn’t been a big reason they’ve been winning. I don’t think there’s a single game they’ve won because of the goalie.
