Golden Knights snap two-game losing streak with 3-2 win against Ducks

The Vegas Golden Knights improved to 10-4-2 with a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday night at Honda Center.

With Mark Stone out of the lineup for the third consecutive game, Grigori Denisenko made his season debut. He recorded five hits and took a penalty late in the second period in just 8:27 of ice time.

It was the fifth consecutive start for Adin Hill, who turned aside 22 of 24 shots for a .917 save percentage as Vegas kicked off its two-game Fathers trip.

The two clubs were scoreless through the first 17 minutes, but both teams found the back of the net before the horn sounded on the opening frame.

The Ducks opened the scoring on Brock McGinn’s third of the season. An Alex Pietrangelo turnover freed up the puck, allowing Anaheim to cycle, get traffic to the net and eventually beat Hill on a rebound.

However, the Golden Knights’ fourth line responded quickly, with Nicolas Roy finding twine just 93 seconds later. Former Duck Shea Theodore set up the play after Cole Schwindt found him at the top of the zone to even things up at 1-1.

In a solid defensive middle frame, Vegas grabbed a 2-1 lead when Tomas Hertl capitalized on a rebound on the power play at 6:43.

Jack Eichel took the initial shot, giving him 20 assists in 16 games this season.

The Golden Knights added to their lead less than five minutes into the third period on Pavel Dorofeyev’s team-leading ninth of the year. For a change, it was Vegas that benefited from a turnover after some good work in the corner, and Dorofeyev — skating on the top line — put home his own rebound.

The Ducks made things interesting late in the frame, as Frank Vatrano made it a one-goal game with 14 seconds left. However, the Golden Knights were able to close out the 3-2 win.

Ducks netminder Lukas Dostal had himself a game (36 saves on 39 shots for a .923 save percentage), which was the reason this one was close.

The Golden Knights went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, including taking care of 3:57 of shorthanded time in the third period.

Up until Vatrano’s goal, it was a solid defensive effort for the Golden Knights, who bounced back after losing two straight (0-1-1). The club is 10-0-1 all-time on dads trips.

Vegas has secured five of six points in its last three road games and will look to add to that total when the club makes its first trip to Utah on Friday.
