Green Bay Packers 2025 Outlook: Playoffs Or Struggle?

Matt LaFleur's update on Jaire Alexander could doom Packers in playoffs

In 2025, under Head Coach Matt LaFleur, the Green Bay Packers aim to get back the momentum Jordan Love had in 2024. While Love showed promise at times last year, 2025 will test whether he can sustain consistent play, as Green Bay transitions fully into a post-Rodgers era.

Quarterback and Offense!

Love enters 2025 with tons to prove. In 2024, he displayed a strong arm and mobility, finishing with 3,200 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions over 14 starts. It pales in comparison to his 2023 season where he threw 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His chemistry with wideouts like Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks will be crucial to his development and Green Bay’s season. Offensive Coordinator Adam Stenavich promoted from line coach will run a similar West Coast scheme, leaning on quick reads and play-action to make Love’s development easier.

Green Bay’s backfield features veteran and All-Pro Josh Jacobs and Chris Brooks. Jacobs’ elusive style aids short-yardage and red-zone offense, while Taylor’s third-down receiving gives Love a safety net. The offensive line is anchored by ex-Penn State man Rasheed Walker.

Defense and Special Teams

Defensively, coordinator Joe Barry fields a unit with a mix of veteran leadership and very promising youth. Outside Linebacker Rashan Gary returns from a breakout 2024 season (12 sacks, 5 forced fumbles) and anchors a revamped pass rush alongside first-rounder Lukas Van Ness. The interior line under Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt aims to pressure opponents which Green Bay hopes to continue to improve on. While the front seven in 2024 finished 10th in run defense, the secondary remains a work in progress.

Cornerback Jaire Alexander leads a young cornerback core that includes Eric Stokes and rookies who impressed at training camp last summer. Safety Xavier McKinney. (coming off a Pro Bowl nod) patrols the back end alongside FA signing Zayne Anderson, someone who’s a versatile playmaker. Green Bay’s 2024 defense finished 12th in total yards allowed, but regressed in red-zone efficiency only 22nd in opponent touchdowns allowed inside the 20. Fixing those late-game lapses will be critical to a playoff run.

Special teams under Rich Bisaccia solidified a return game with Green Bay averaging 26 yards per kickoff return last year. Kicker Brandon McManus, who helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 and Punter Daniel Whelan give the Packers reliable footing to build something better.

Schedule and Division Outlook

The NFC North will be competitive. Detroit, led by Jared Goff after getting to the playoffs and Minnesota coming off a 14-win season. Chicago’s rebuild under Head Coach Ben Johnson shows promise but remains an unknown. Green Bay’s 2025 home slate includes matchups against the likes of Tampa Ba. These difficult tests could sway playoff seeding. On the road, a key Week 8 trip to Minnesota in November looms large. Outdoor, cold-weather games late in the season have historically challenged Love.

Playoff Projection and Record

We project Green Bay to finish 9–8, capturing a wild-card berth but falling short of the division crown to Minnesota. Love’s growth solidified the offensive line, and pass rush improvements tip a few more one-score games in Green Bay’s favor. However, lingering secondary questions and offensive consistency will likely produce a few narrow losses as well. Their projected 9–8 mark slots them as wild card team but we won’t say they’ll go far in the playoffs.

In summary, the 2025 Packers should return to postseason contention. Love’s maturation, combined with incremental defensive upgrades, sets Green Bay on the cusp of a deep run. Consistency in the secondary and late-game execution will determine if they advance beyond Wild Card Weekend. As the team fully embraces its post-Rodgers identity, the 2025 season stands as a measuring stick for Love’s long-term viability and LaFleur’s offensive vision.
