Greg Nicotero, the visionary behind The Walking Dead and Creepshow, is back with a brand-new unscripted horror series. Titled Guts & Glory, the competition-based show is set to premiere on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, with a two-episode debut on both Shudder and AMC+ in the United States and Canada.
Guts & Glory is an unscripted horror competition where contestants are dropped into elaborate, live-action horror scenarios designed to test their courage, instincts, and survival skills. Drawing inspiration from horror films and haunted house experiences, the show incorporates practical effects and set pieces in real time.
The series stands apart by merging immersive horror storytelling with competition-based reality television, a genre blend rarely attempted at this scale. Nicotero described it as “one of the most creative and organic things I’ve ever done,” emphasizing the live FX and authentic emotional reactions from contestants.
After the two-episode premiere, Guts & Glory will continue to release one new episode every Tuesday, for a total of six episodes in its debut season. The production includes several crew members from The Walking Dead, ensuring high production value and genre authenticity.
The launch of Guts & Glory aligns with the “Shudder 10” campaign celebrating the streaming platform’s ten-year anniversary. The milestone year includes a slate of new content, fan events, national screenings, and specialty merchandise designed to spotlight the network’s evolution as a leader in horror programming.
This project marks Greg Nicotero’s first foray into unscripted horror competition. Known for his extensive work in genre television, Nicotero previously helmed Shudder’s hit anthology Creepshow for four seasons. With Guts & Glory, he steps into a new creative arena—bridging practical effects mastery with unpredictable reality TV dynamics.
As horror continues to evolve on television, Guts & Glory may mark a significant turning point. With Nicotero’s experience, Shudder’s platform, and AMC Studios’ backing, this series could redefine how horror is experienced by audiences—both as entertainment and as immersive participation.
