Fire Country Season 3, Episode 15, “One Last Time” ends in quite a cliffhanger before the show takes a two-week break. And though the series has left quite a few characters on the brink of death before, this is a new kind of cliffhanger. Not just that, it’s one that ties into the possibility that Bode’s redemption arc and could give our hero a definitive step back. But is Bode (Max Thieriot) going back to jail in Fire Country? What is going to happen to him?
Is Bode Going Back to Jail in Fire Country?
The answer could very well be yes, as the episode ends with his parole officer showing up at his doorstep asking him why he’s been associating with “known criminals.” Now, what criminals Bode is associating with or how his parole officer would know this is undetermined. All we know is that Bode is still holding on to a bag of pills — and the only one who knows about it is Audrey.
But there’s some more shifty behavior from Bode in this episode. Audrey (Leven Rambin) notices a large bandage on Bode’s hand when he’s telling her about Walter’s problems with his new living arrangements. Bode brushes her off by telling her that it happened while he was clearing some trees for an old friend for some extra cash. She doesn’t seem to really buy it, and for the viewers, it’s certainly a red flag, particularly when he gives Vince a different story when Vince asks about it at another point in the episode.
The last few episodes have been foreshadowing a downward spiral for Bode, one he seemed to have sidestepped when he only took the pills but didn’t consume them. But the ghost of his sister is still present, and that’s something Bode still hasn’t dealt with. It’s a wound that still hasn’t healed, and one he never really looks at. In “One Last Time,” he says goodbye to his grandfather, and though Walter is still alive, he’s not really doing well. Who knows how long he’ll be around? And even if he still has some years in him, who knows how long he’ll even remember his family?
All of those things start to weigh on you, and in this episode, it’s obvious that they weigh on Bode. That they’ve been weighing on him and we just haven’t been seeing it. That’s why, when his parole officer shows up at the end of the episode and tells him unequivocally that they have to talk about his parole, we’re not surprised — just as Bode isn’t surprised. And the thing is, if Bode did violate the conditions of his parole, it’s likely Three Rock won’t be an option for him. He’ll have to go to jail.
That means losing everything he’s worked so hard for — his life, his relationships. It’s devastating. So what makes a man go there? It feels like Bode would only take that risk for someone he really cares about, that’s the thing. And that list is very short: His parents, Gabriela, Jake, Eve. So what did Bode do and who did he do it for? We’d really love the answer.
