Hot beach concerts plus, yes, a 'Vanderpump Rules' DJ for big Memorial Day Weekend

The Memorial Day weekend will signal the beginning of the tourist season and throngs of people will hit area beaches, as is tradition. Revelers who are in the mood for some live music will find plenty of choices to accommodate them — including party bands, DJs and concert acts.

Boardwalk Rock brought summer atmosphere early with huge crowds

Anyone who hit the Boardwalk in Ocean City last weekend experienced a vibe that felt like the holiday visitors had arrived a week early. A massive, sold-out crowd descended upon OC for the inaugural Boardwalk Rock festival May 17-18, which featured national bands including Def Leppard, Halestorm, Extreme and many more.

Radio and television personality Eddie Trunk, who has chronicled music festivals on his AXS TV program TrunkFest, acted as emcee for a portion of the event and posted his thoughts on social media. “I’ve had the honor of hosting many shows over the decades, but I’m pretty sure this is the most amount of people I’ve been in front of,” Trunk said. “55,000 people on the beach; amazing!”

The Struts use Boardwalk Rock to announce another big show

Fans of the British rock ’n’ roll quartet The Struts welcomed a surprise announcement during its Boardwalk Rock set last Saturday — that it has added a second Delmarva appearance to its touring schedule this year. The group said it would make its semi-annual appearance at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach this summer. The nightclub later confirmed the news; tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23 for the concert that is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 18 ($48).

'Vanderpump Rules' star to be guest DJ at Dewey's Northbeach

Elsewhere in Dewey, the Cork’s nearby sister business Northbeach has a holiday weekend event on tap featuring an appearance by a reality television star. James Kennedy from the “Vanderpump Rules” series is also a DJ, and will spin music during an afternoon dance party which will take place outside in the sand at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24 ($20).

Rusty Rudder adds new concert to go with hot deck parties

Yet another bayside Dewey hotspot, the Rusty Rudder, has already been enjoying large crowds this month for its Thursday night deck parties featuring house band Love Seed Mama Jump. It plays at 9 p.m. each week, and admission is always free for the classic-rock party act.

The Rudder has placed tickets on sale for a concert event set for 8 p.m. Sunday, June 1 featuring The Band Feel ($18). The Missouri-based group is touring in support of its eponymous debut EP which blends rock, jazz and blues.
