How Jennifer Tilly’s Ex-Husband Took Steps to Protect Her After His Death

Jennifer Tilly is the lively new addition to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She joined as a friend of the cast, mainly to Sutton Stracke. As ever with these new ladies, there is the curiosity as to how they came to own their millions. Some RHOBH ladies have lamented their bitter divorces. But in the case of Jennifer’s late ex-husband, Sam Simon, he made sure she was well taken care of after his death.

Sam and Jennifer were married from 1985 until the official dissolution of their marriage in December 1993. The exes remained good friends. Sadly, Sam passed away on March 8, 2015, after battling cancer.

Jennifer Tilly petitioned the court to validate an agreement between her and the trustees of Sam’s estate

In Touch Weekly reported that one year after Sam’s death, Jennifer filed a petition in court regarding an agreement between herself and a trustee of Sam’s estate.

When they divorced, Jennifer was to receive 25 percent of her ex-husband’s income from The Simpsons. This included episodes, films, and syndication profits. However, it was Sam’s company that received the payments from Fox. He would then transfer the relevant receivables to the RHOBH star.

Jennifer would then get a “net after tax-payment equal to my percentage of the net after-tax amount of the net proceeds.”

Sam became the middle man in the procedure after there were issues with Fox paying Jennifer directly. As a result, he added provisions to the settlement to clarify Jennifer’s right to the payments.

“My understanding is that knowing this, Sam made changes in anticipation of his death. He executed a beneficiary designation directing that I receive the same percentage of the Net Proceeds that I had been receiving during his lifetime,” Jennifer said of Sam’s concerns.

She continued, “He executed another beneficiary designation, directing that the Sam Simon Charitable Giving Foundation receive the remainder of the Net Proceeds.”

The trustee of Sam’s estate worked out a deal with Jennifer. It was this agreement that she petitioned the court to validate. The judge approved the paperwork several weeks later.
