There’s a new sheriff in town: “Sheriff Country,” a spinoff of CBS drama “Fire Country,” will premiere in the 2025–2026 television cycle. According to CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach, the network left “plenty of time to cast,” which means actors should keep this guide to the series’ casting process on their radar.

Set in the small, fictional northern California town of Edgewater, “Sheriff Country” follows Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) as she honors her duty to protect the community while navigating strained relationships with her rebellious teenage daughter and estranged father.

“She’s part of Edgewater, and we’re just expanding the Edgewater universe,” said executive producer Tia Napolitano in an interview with TV Insider. “I think it’ll feel like coming home when you finally are able to tune into ‘Sheriff Country.’ ”

Fans of “Fire Country” will recognize Mickey as the stepsister of Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr). While “Fire Country” focuses on redemption through firefighting, “Sheriff Country” dives into darker territory. In an interview with TV Insider, Baccarin described the tone as “a little edgier,” noting that police storylines often deal with more sensitive subjects such as addiction and crime.

“Sheriff Country” Season 1 features:

  • Morena Baccarin as Mickey Fox
  • Christopher Gorham as Travis
  • Matt Lauria as Boone
  • Michele Weaver as Cassidy
  • Vanessa Smythe as Carol Gimble
  • Taylor Love as Deputy
  • Caroline Rhea as Gina
  • W. Earl Brown as Wes
  • Amanda Arcuri as Skye
