I Just Knew Monique Samuels' Return to 'RHOP' Would Be the Most Predictable Plot Twist Yet

With Karen Huger's DUI case rendering her unable to join the ladies for another season, The Real Housewives of Potomac was the latest show that was in need of a cast shake-up band-aid. In a week of bombshell Bravo news, the weekend began with the latest casting addition: Monique Samuels is returning! While she won't be a full-time cast member, People has reported that she'll return and serve in a "Friend of" capacity.

Monique and Chris Samuels

With Season 10's production underway, Monique will be back after her infamous exit following Season 5. At the time, she took to social media and stated, "It’s not easy doing reality TV, and to be quite honest, I’m over it." The irony was that she would return to reality television two years later as a cast member of Love & Marriage: D.C. alongside her then-husband Chris Samuels. It was only a year later that the pair divorced. Hoping to show the new Monique, it was always clear that when the divorce was finalized and Candiace Dillard Bassett was out of the way, Monique would eventually return.

Monique Samuels' Marriage Was Her Biggest Pitfall

On the heels of the bombshell addition of Rachel Zoe to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, RHOP gave fans something to get excited for. Joining Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, Dr. Wendy Osefo, Keiarna Stewart, and Stacey Rusch, Monique is set to begin filming for Season 10. In the exclusive reveal, a source stated, "She’s excited to show who she is now — not as a wife, not as just a mom, but as a woman starting over and taking on life on her own terms." She is in a totally different place, and it's because she's out on her own, doing her own thing, being her own woman.

All that comes now that she is much removed from Chris Samuels. Having had their marriage documented across two different shows, though there were some struggles seen during her four seasons on RHOP, the exes' explosive marital woes were put on display on Love & Marriage: D.C. Perhaps her desire for stardom centralized her resentment toward Chris, but without the distraction of the women of Potomac, she was forced to face the problems at home. With the cameras rolling, viewers were privy to her treatment of her husband. With everything lying underneath, we all saw it coming.

After one season on Love & Marriage: D.C., a split was on the horizon. As she said in a lengthy YouTube video, “It's no secret that Chris and I have been struggling in some areas of our marriage, and anybody who watched Love & Marriage: D.C. last year, y'all saw the arguments, y'all saw everything that was going on."

What Will Monique Be Coming Back to on 'RHOP?'

Timing was everything, and that time to return to the show that made her a fan-favorite is now. Monique is back to making herself the priority, and she needed to do so without a camera following her. But when you believe that you're a star, there's only so long you can be away from the spotlight. Monique has always wanted to be a recording artist. She used RHOP to help launch her dream. Will that be part of what she brings to her return? Or will she come back in a more solemn place and showcase how she's embarking on a new chapter of her life? What is crystal clear is that she will have to reintegrate into this version of the Potomac friend group.

Monique will be joining a group of single ladies. Well, that is, depending on how Bravo's Love Hotel ends up, of course. She has revealed that she is much happier as a single lady. And it's because she can focus on being a mom. “I’m able to be the mom I always wanted to be, and I’ve always been a great mom. I love my children, but now it’s almost like I was able to take the reins off, and I was really able to dive in deeper to just being the mom I wanted to be, because I had the energy now. I didn’t have the constant weight of the arguments or the expectations not being met or the misunderstandings and all of that other stuff.”

Much has changed since Season 5, but that fight between herself and Candiace will need to be addressed here. It was a pivotal moment in the show's history that marked the end of her tenure. Now, without Candiace around, will the others who were present at the time welcome her back with open arms? Word on the street is it's going to make some excellent television!
