IceHogs Win Series Over Wolves With 5-0 Win In Game Two

The Rockford IceHogs defeated the Chicago Wolves in game one of their first-round series at the Allstate Arena on Wednesday night. As a result, Rockford had a chance to sweep Chicago and move on to the second round with a win in game two on Friday night.

This one took place down in Rockford. It ended up being a 5-0 victory over the Wolves to complete the sweep. In the next phase of the Calder Cup Playoffs, they will face their division’s top seed, the Milwaukee Admirals.

In the series-clinching victory, the Hogs won 5-0 thanks to a shutout by Drew Commesso. The young goaltender gave up just one goal in the two games, which allowed the team in front of him to do what they needed to do.

At 1:56 of the first period in game two, Joey Anderson put the Hogs up, and they never looked back. It was about as dominant a victory as you can ask for from a team looking to take a series to the bank.

When the Wolves started to play better in the second period, Commesso was up to the task. By the end of the game, he made 34 saves on 34 shots.

One of Rockford's goal scorers, Kevin Korchinski, had a goal in each of the two games. After being named the AHL All-Star Game MVP earlier this season, his AHL season is going quite well.

This series win for Rockford took everybody. The younger players on the team, who were Chicago Blackhawks call-ups and AHL veterans, have come together to get to where they are.

Reinforcements in the form of young players have been added to this IceHogs roster since the end of the regular season, so they should be able to stay fresh throughout. If Commesso can continue to play well and they get scoring from all over the lineup, there is no reason that they shouldn't be confident.

Game one against the Admirals will take place in Milwaukee on Thursday, May 1st. Game two, also in Milwaukee, will be on Saturday, May 3rd. On Wednesday, May 7th and Friday, May 9th (if necessary), the series will flip to Rockford. If there needs to be a winner-take-all game five, it will be played in Milwaukee on Sunday, May 11th.

The Admirals earned this number one seed thanks to their 40-21-5 record. It will be a challenge to take them down, but the IceHogs have shown that they can skate with the best. When everyone does their job, Rockford is a huge threat.
