If You Think Bold & Beautiful’s Luna’s Crazy Now, Wait Until You See What She Does Next!

This week, Bold & Beautiful might as well have changed its name to The Luna Nozawa Show — Brought to You By Nozawa Power! It was pretty much all Luna, all the time. When she wasn’t on screen, she was being talked about. And when she wasn’t being talked about… oh, who am I kidding? It’s all anyone talked about this week. But with one bit of casting news, the show tipped its hand as to what her next move will be… and it’s a doozy!

New Kid on the Block

Ah, Bold & Beautiful. You ain’t slick. For weeks, Luna has been telling anyone who’d listen that she wants — no, needs — Daddy Finn in her life. You know who she hasn’t talked about connecting with as she dreamed of a reunited family? Hayes. Yes, she tried using the kid as a way to get grammy Sheila on board with her whole “let’s just kill Steffy and get it over with” plan. But otherwise, Hayes hasn’t so much as crossed his half-sibling’s mind.

So when Hayes caught an unexpected case of SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) out of the blue, it was surprising… for about 10 seconds. But this is a show on which absolutely nothing happens without a reason. So when Luna “hid” in the kitchen and watched Finn play daddy to his son, pieces began falling in place. Soon after, Steffy and Finn booted Luna yet again and the delulu young woman stood outside their door with making her “I’ll get you, my pretties” face. It was at that moment it hit me: That crazy rhymes-with-witch is gonna kidnap Hayes.

Is this how the show will write off Jacqueline MacInnes Wood during her imminent maternity leave? I can sort of see Steffy taking off to find her missing son, with Finn accompanying her. Wood’s leaves are notoriously short, so maybe for a couple weeks they’ll have Finn making calls to loved ones back home updating everyone on the search while the show moves on to tell other stories. That is, after all, how they tend to function. Liam’s death has been basically backburnered in order to focus on Luna, so it’s not hard to imagine Luna’s story shifting to the background as they focus on not only Liam but the upcoming trip to Italy and return of Jack Wagner’s Nick.

Come On In!

Riddle me this: Why does Bold & Beautiful insist on eschewing logic, even when it comes to the simplest — and most obvious — of plot points? Despite everyone in town freaking out about Luna and assuming she’s going to do harm to Steffy, Finn and his wife still refuse to lock the front door. So of course, Luna came barging in! (At least Friday’s episode had Finn saying he’d check the doors before they went to bed! Better still, Luna said that she took the unlocked door as a sign that maybe Steffy and Finn weren’t as afraid of her as she thought!)

Also, ya’ll are rich. How about hiring security? (Just don’t use the same firm employed by Victor Newman over on Young & Restless. Their Yelp reviews are awful, what with constantly granting the baddie du jour free access to the ranch!) I mean, it’s not rocket science, people.

One Fine Day

Thursday’s episode was actually interesting in that it felt as if the writer of that day’s script was trying to do a bit of damage control. Suddenly, we had Bill kinda sorta acknowledging, in very Dollar Bill fashion, that he made a mistake in arranging for Luna to be pardoned. “I have a lot of power, and I can pull strings that most people simply can’t,” he told Li. “What I have to do a better job of is knowing when and when not to use said power. I mean, just because I get an idea in my head doesn’t mean I have to follow through on it. Especially a misguided one.”

Bill also admitted that while he wasn’t rooting for the serial killer, “If Luna can get her life together and put the past behind her, it could mean I didn’t totally screw up getting her pardoned.” And while claiming he “genuinely believed she deserved a second chance” is still kinda ludicrous given the girl’s crimes, hey, at least it’s something.

This same episode featured the lovely scenes in which Luna watched from her hiding place as Finn bonded with Hayes. Sure, it was a little nail-on-the-heady, and it made no sense that Finn didn’t hustle Hayes out of the house rather than risk Luna doing something crazy, but it worked better than expected.

Random Thoughts

Liam Hope B&B

• Having Hope use a malfunctioning computer as an excuse to call on Liam was a nice call back to his introduction. (Longtime viewers will recall that we first met him as computer tech at Spencer Communications.) I also loved her trying to convince him to tell Wyatt and Bill the truth about his condition.

• No matter how many times Luna puts Poppy on blast for being “the worst mother in the world,” I’m not buying it. We were told repeatedly that Luna had a pretty awesome childhood and that she and her mom were incredibly close.

• In the name of all things holy, I bet you, Bold and Beautiful, dial back the flashbacks! It’s insane, especially when you show things that we literally saw earlier in the episode!

• Also, they need to stop acting as if Luna’s life wasn’t pretty sweet before she suddenly, inexplicably went bonkers. What girl her age wouldn’t love that immediately upon arriving in Los Angeles, she landed an internship at a prestigious fashion house and then landed a hot, rich boyfriend? Alternative facts aren’t a thing, and they don’t change what we saw with our own eyes.
