Ivan Demidov Gets KHL Rookie of the Week Honors

Ivan Demidov is starting to heat up.

I wrote about Ivan Demidov recently, and now he’s picked up his play even more. He was a +2 for the week and he had two goals. They stated they were “important” goals. One of them was a game-tying goal off of a lethal one-timer.

On December, 19, he ended a 12-game scoreless streak. That’s going to happen to rookies of any league. Flyers star forward, Matvei Michkov is going through a rough stretch right now. No rookie is immune to this. It’s just something that happens until they figure it out. Teams will game plan against young stars and often the prospect has to study up and adjust.

Demidov’s ice time is increasing slowly and that’s another good sign. Again, the KHL can be a good developmental league for young players. It depends on the coach and since the Canadiens have been visiting Demidov. It’s something they’re comfortable with.

The right wing has 22 points in 36 games but as of October 28th, the KHL marked that he had 16 points in a 20-game stretch so it’s clear that he is improving.

At 19, he’s developing nicely. I think he’s a top-line player in the NHL. It may take a year or two but he will get there barring any injuries. I also think he can be an 80-90 point player. He has the tools to be that kind of player. He’s an impact player and the Canadiens will see him soon enough. Another season in the KHL could be exactly what he needs.
