Jeremy Swayman gets bad news ahead of Bruins season opener

Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins just signed a new contract and there a ton of expectations for him to perform.

However, he did sign his deal just mere days before the start of the NHL regular season. That did not give the Bruins much time to prepare for their goaltender's arrival. In fact, many believed that Swayman would just end up holding out longer and that Joonas Korpisalo would have to be the starter going forward.

Yesterday, it was reported that there was a real chance that Swayman could play in the season opener tonight against the Florida Panthers. After all, the Bruins would likely rather him than Korpisalo. Having said that, it seems like Jim Montgomery went with Korpisalo tonight.

With Swayman probably rusty from the time off, it seems like this was simply the best option for the team and you cannot blame them one bit for going down this route. At the end of the day, the last thing you want is a rusty goaltender who simply cannot swing it for you.

Only time will tell when Swayman is able to make his debut with the Bruins this season. However, it is likely to happen sooner rather than later at this point. Hopefully, it doesn't disappoint as he has 66 million reasons to play like a Vezina goaltender. Bruins fans will be hopeful he does.
