The New York Jets are fresh off losing one top special teams performer and another has gone down for the rest of the 2024 season.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced that kick returner Kene Nwangwu has been placed on season-ending injured reserve. Nwangwu has a broken hand.
Nwangwu, 23, burst onto the scene in the later stages of the Jets’ season as a returner. Nwangwu ended up recording only one of six kick return touchdowns in the NFL this year.
For that effort in New York’s Week 13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Nwangwu was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. That was Nwangwu’s first game active in 2024.
Nwangwu landing on injured reserve comes after special teams ace Irv Charles was placed on IR earlier this week after tearing his ACL.
