Agatha All Along star Joe Locke recently opened up about his character's future in the MCU. Since his reveal as Billy Maximoff/William Kaplan/Wiccan, fans have been wondering where the character will go from here. Wiccan is a member of the Young Avengers in the comics, so that is a likely trajectory for the character within the MCU. Alternatively, Vision Quest will feature Billy's father, Vision, making it a likely project for him to crop up in. However, Locke has a different idea in mind for Wiccan.
The actor would like to see his character interact with an Avenger, and his reasoning is sound. In an interview with Deadline, Locke revealed the ideal mentor for Wiccan: "I think Billy would learn a lot from Doctor Strange." He continued that Wiccan is "such a young magic" user that he needs an instructor. Locke further stated: "Obviously, in the comics, they have a connection. So I think that would be cool, but who knows?"
What Joe Locke's Doctor Strange Comments Mean
Ideally, a future MCU project will feature both Billy and Strange, but it remains to be seen how the former will return. The finale of Agatha All Along teased his next appearance as him tracking down the reincarnated form of his twin brother, Tommy Maximoff, alongside Agatha Harkness' ghost. This could factor into Vision Quest or be a separate story. Regardless, Strange's status as a former, possibly current or future depending on Wong's role, Sorcerer Supreme makes him a solid choice of mentor for Billy.
A future MCU film or show could see Billy and Strange allied. Alternatively, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness saw Strange facing Billy's mother, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, so he may not exactly be happy to interact with Wiccan. Moreover, Billy cheated Death and upset the natural balance by claiming the body of William Kaplan for himself. The Sorcerer Supreme might not be happy with him.
Our Take On Joe Locke's Doctor Strange Comments
Locke is right on the money with his thoughts on who Billy needs to meet next in the MCU. Though he'll most likely team up with Vision and/or Tommy before any Avengers, Doctor Strange is the most likely next candidate. That is, he is the most probable if and only if Wanda doesn't return.
Billy's next appearance in the MCU is not confirmed, but his ending in Agatha All Along indicates that he'll be back on our screens sooner rather than later. Whether he's a Young Avenger or an apprentice to Strange, Billy is sure to be an essential part of Marvel's magical side moving forward.
