The Philadelphia Flyers advance to 20-20-6 after their 5-3 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Though the Islanders scored the game-opening score, the Flyers were in control for most of the game.
Sean Couturier, Garnet Hathaway, Morgan Frost, Cam York, and Noah Cates scored for the Flyers in the team’s win.
Morgan Frost is officially on heat watch.
The 25-year-old center has six points (4G, 2A) in his last five games. One could say he has–deFROSTed. I am so sorry for the poor pun. The Flyers are starting to see the production they have been searching for out of the 2017 first-round draft selection.
Since being paired with Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett, Frost has started to find his grove, and the production has followed. The Flyers may have finally found their top line for the remainder of the season.
Between the production from Frost and Noah Cates, who also scored Thursday, the Flyers are starting to see production from the center position.
After three straight games as a healthy scratch, Joel Farabee returned to the Flyers lineup. Farabee stepped into the third-line left-winger role that Olle Lycksell had been holding down and played with Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov.
Farabee recorded a two-assist night in his first game back since January 9th. Not only did he get two assists, but both assists were primary. Farabee earned assists on both Couturier’s first-period score and Cam York’s third-period goal.
Farabee now was 16 points (6G, 10A) on the season.
Flyers forward Ryan Poehling exited the game in the first period Thursday after taking a high hit from Maxim Tsyplakov.
The play was not called for a penalty, which left John Tortorella and Flyers’ players irate–including Joel Farabee, who took a slashing penalty on Tsyplakov almost immediately after.
It was unclear if Poehling’s injury was to the head or shoulder. Regardless, he was injured enough to not return to the game, and will be someone to keep an eye on as the Flyers continue on their “road trip”.
The Flyers will travel to Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday to take on the New Jersey Devils in the Prudential Center. Puck drop is set for 12:30 p.m. EST.
