The Las Vegas Raiders are set to enter the 2025 NFL Draft in just a few days with the task of turning this thing around. Of course, every recent regime has been tasked with the same thing. This regime doesn't have much time. The fan base is impatient.
This draft class is one that can really turn your franchise around. The Raiders have a ton of holes and needs that have to be addressed, and they have nine picks to try and do it. They also have one of the first questionable draft picks in this draft. Sure, we all think that the Raiders will be taking Ashton Jeanty, but no one really knows that, where some of the picks before that you can pretty much stencil in one or two players, whether it be the Tennessee Titans taking Ward, or the Cleveland Browns taking Travis Hunter.
The Raiders could very well switch it up when the draft gets here. They could see something else that they like, or both Pete Carroll and John Spytekl could agree on something else, it happens. But one thing we do know is that these two are going to take whatever player best helps the Raiders.
That's one thing they have in common during this 2025 NFL Draft process when it comes to strategy.
"We love the Raiders," Carroll said when asked what the two have in common in their draft strategies. "What I'm seeing from John [Spytek] is really his depth of commitment to the people that we choose, and the makeup of the person and the character and certainly the competitiveness of the guys, the hunger that they bring. That's something that we both cherish. And so, we come from a real connected spot in that regard.
"So, in every choice that we make, every decision we're talking about, it always comes up. 'What kind of guy is this guy? What can we expect? How could he complement our mentality?’ Right now, we're building this team, and so much of that comes from the character and the attitude and in the makeup of the people. And so, as we draft all the way throughout the rounds, that's going to be a huge factor in all of our decisions. And we're really connected in our thinking in that regard. So, I know we both feel very comfortable about going into this, because we know we have that kind of baseline that we're starting from."
Carroll and Spytek have both preached relentlessly that they want to win now. They don't want to rebuild. So, doing what's best for the Raiders in the first round with that first pick is what they are both interested in in terms of their strategy.
If that means getting a running back, one like Ashton Jeanty, when the Raiders had the worst run game in the league last year, then so be it. If that means getting an offensive tackle because you're in a contract dispute with Kolton Miller, and you had one of the worst offensive lines in the league, then so be it.
Whatever they do, it will be what they both agree will help the Raiders.
