At 39 years old, Jonathan Quick is still playing at a high level in the NHL.

However, Quick is not serving the same role he was in during his time with the Los Angeles Kings where he was the unequivocal starter.

Now, Quick is serving as the backup goalie to Igor Shesterkin with the New York Rangers, which has its benefits.

“For the most part I would say it helps as far as you are playing once a week as opposed to three, four times a week,” Quick said about his new role. “For the body, you play that game and you have a couple days to recover and prepare for the next one.

“I just like being around the team. Coming and competing every day. However I can help the team, just tell me what I have to do and I’ll do it.”

The Rangers signed Quick during the 2023 offseason and it’s truly been a match made in heaven.

The veteran goalie has stepped up to the plate whenever the team has needed him to while also taking on a mentorship role for Shesterkin and other young players in the locker room.

Specifically, Quick is letting Matt Rempe live at his house, a true testament to the kind of person he is

Quick’s impressive play has always been on display for everybody to see, but now people are starting to see his leadership qualities shine bright at the highest level.
