Woll gets the start against Calgary, while Stolarz could return in the final two games of their Western road trip.
It'll be Joseph Woll in net for the Toronto Maple Leafs when they step onto the ice Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.
The 26-year-old didn't participate in Toronto's full morning skate, which he'll sometimes do when starting in goal later that night. Anthony Stolarz and Matt Murray were the two goaltenders on the ice Tuesday morning for the Maple Leafs.
"He's our goalie," Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said following the team's morning skate.
Woll is coming off an incredible performance against the Edmonton Oilers, where he stopped 45 of 48 shots, including a save-of-the-year stop on Corey Perry in the game's final seconds.
He's won 18 of the 28 games this season, adding a .909 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average. Besides Mitch Marner—who could miss Tuesday's game against Calgary with an injury—Woll has arguably been the Maple Leafs' MVP.
"He's played real good games for us this year and obviously played well. I think he's a confident goalie right now," Berube said. "He's seeing the puck well. He's battling in there. He's competitive. That's how you make those saves, by being competitive."
Woll will take on Dustin Wolf, who has been one of the league's top goaltenders this season. He's won 19 of 30 games while posting a .917 save percentage, tied for fifth in the NHL.
Anthony Stolarz's return appears imminent
After participating in yet another practice with Toronto on Monday, Stolarz is nearing a return to the Maple Leafs' crease. The goaltender hasn't appeared in a game since Dec. 12, a couple of days before he underwent knee surgery to remove a "loose body."
The 31-year-old said following Monday's practice that he's "getting better and better every day" but admits he's still taking things one day at a time.
"It's obviously exciting, and you see the team and you see them out there and you're kind of on the sidelines, and it kind of sucks," Stolarz said on Monday.
"It's nice to kind of be back around them and get in the groove. You kind of feel attached to the team again. We're a point out here of the Atlantic Division, so coming down the stretch here, we've got a lot of big games coming up before the break. So it's exciting to be in that position."
Toronto has two more games after their matchup against Calgary: Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken and Saturday vs. the Vancouver Canucks. Berube said Stolarz is "an option" for the team's next game in Seattle.
"I think it's more about getting the work and practice a little bit more," the head coach said. "Shooting, trap, all that kind of stuff, the timing side of it. He's not quite there yet."
When in the net, Stolarz has been one of the league's best goaltenders. His .927 save percentage through 17 games is the best among NHL goalies this season who've played more than 15 games.
"That's all I'm kind of focused on is just making progress each and every day. Physically, I feel great and couldn't be happier with where I'm at in terms of that," Stolarz said.
"The staff, medical staff and training staff have done a phenomenal job of pushing me and getting me back up to speed here, so I owe them a lot of credit."
