Kane's Agent: “The Intention Is to Try and Work Something Out" with Red Wings

According to a report in The Athletic, Patrick Kane's agent Pat Brisson expressed desire to work out an extension with the Red Wings as the draft wrapped up in Vegas Saturday night

Without a doubt, the Red Wings' most important pieces of business this offseason are the new contracts for Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider, but the summer's most intriguing contract saga is that of free agent-to-be Patrick Kane, who scored at not quite a point-a-game pace in a rehabilitative season in Detroit, bucking all precedent to recover effectively enough from hip resurfacing surgery that he might now command a serious raise in free agency.

In the season's immediate aftermath, it felt as though he was unlikely to return, despite the short-term success together, but now, per a report in The Athletic from Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston, a new contract between Patrick Kane and the Detroit Red Wings may be within arm's reach.

“Veteran agent Pat Brisson (Kane's representative) could be seen Saturday at the Sphere meeting with Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman regarding pending UFA Patrick Kane," reported LeBrun and Johnston. “We’re still talking to Detroit,” they quoted Brisson as saying. “The intention is to try and work something out.”

“We’re just not gonna have enough money to bring everybody back,” Yzerman told reporters after the draft. “It’s not the way it’s gonna work. And we’d love to bring everybody back but we’re not bringing everybody back, and we’re trying to make these deals with all these guys that allow us to bring them all back. But I’m not sure we’ll be able to do that.”

It seems clear Kane is one free agent Yzerman would like to bring back; now the question is whether the two parties can arrive at a mutually agreeable price.
