Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are set to split up once again, but there’s a reason to believe it might not be forever.
It’s official. The New York Jets are looking for a new quarterback. Aaron Rodgers has his own goals, but it takes a team to want him. In past years, that criteria would have been the easiest part of the puzzle.
However, after back-to-back lost seasons and three consecutive years without a playoff appearance, the argument is only getting tougher to make.
Meanwhile, for Davante Adams, the Jets wide receiver is still under contract with the team. However, with his quarterback moving away, there is plenty of reason to believe the Jets might send him packing as well.
Adams’ expressed interest in a western NFL team is drawing attention and one potential landing spot could make more sense than the others. One NFL expert opened the door to that landing spot and a potential quick reunion with a familiar face.
Kay Adams opens door to quick reunion
Speaking on a February 18 edition of “Up and Adams,” NFL expert Kay Adams claimed that the Los Angeles Rams could see not just Aaron Rodgers, but his teammate Davante Adams.
She said: “If the Rams do move on [from Matthew Stafford], you’d have to think they take a swing for another proven vet, don’t you? Like Rodgers.
“I would imagine it’s still intriguing to McVay he’s got good football left and then look at the end of the season how it ended when he got healthier.”
“You’ve got a great running situation. I don’t know. Like McVay, Shanahan offense Green Bay, LaFleur like there’s a good match there for Aaron Rodgers, like does he end up with Davante again that would be wild,” she added.
In other words, if the Rams move on from Stafford, they could get Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers would clearly be open to throwing passes to Davante Adams again. The stars could align once again.
Los Angeles Rams could kill two birds with one stone
It is no secret that the Rams want to move on from Cooper Kupp. If they move on from Stafford as well, they could flip the two spots perfectly. Kupp might even be a decent trade option to the Jets for Adams, depending on how the draft compensation adds up.
The Rams could get their bridge quarterback, add a receiver that outproduced Kupp last season and have no problem selling fans on the 2025 season. Plus, Rodgers’ best touchdown-interception ratio of his career came on Matt LaFleur’s watch in 2020.
LaFleur and McVay spent time together learning under Mike Shanahan, so both run a similar system. In theory, the move seems like a slam dunk. The question is whether the Rams would be willing to take the leap to go older at quarterback and receiver.
