Latest playoff results allow the Saints to take their next step to try to hire Aaron Glenn as new HC

The search continues in The Big Easy. The New Orleans Saints need a new head coach. It's a process that may not wrap up in the coming week, but the chances that it does just increased potentially.

Latest playoff results allow the Saints to take their next step to try to hire Aaron Glenn as new HC

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn seems to be one of the leading candidates for the job in New Orleans. His Lions just fell in a tough game for their defense in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Lions lose

Detroit's injuries on defense showed themselves in full color against the Washington Commanders. The secondary struggled against Terry McLaurin and Zach Ertz, while the front seven had no way to contain Jayden Daniels at quarterback.

It was a tough outing for both sides of the ball for the Lions, though. Ben Johnson's offensive unit turned the ball over five times. He's a head coaching candidate for some of the other openings around the league.

More interviews for Aaron Glenn

With the defeat, Glenn is now available for in-person interviews for head coaching positions around the NFL. I'd expect him to interview in person with the Saints, New York Jets, and potentially other teams with a HC job opening.

Glenn interviewed with the Saints virtually last week.

As for New Orleans, his unit's latest performance was disappointing, but that probably won't (and shouldn't) deter them from continuing their interest in Glenn.

If he was a leading candidate before Saturday, he should be afterwards. If he isn't, the front office probably is not handling a search in the correct manner.
