The Buffalo Sabres did not mince words for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a wing-themed wisecrack on Tuesday.

If the Leafs were chicken wings, they’d be a “choking hazard,” the team quipped in a photo gallery depicting their opponents as Buffalo’s specialty as they released their 2025-26 game schedule.

Leafs fans were shattered after a 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 during the second playoffs round in May repeated both history and a local curse of squandering the final best-of-seven game. Since 2018, the Leafs have been 0-7 in winner-take-all playoff series games.

The Sabres were more generous with their wing flavours for some other teams: the Edmonton Oilers earned “Oil Slick,” the Winnipeg Jets were dubbed the “Airplane Wings,” while the Calgary Flames were labelled “Flamin’ Hot.”

Meanwhile, the Carolina Hurricanes were pegged as a “Bunch of Jerks,” and the Ottawa Senators were simply deemed “Plain.” The Anaheim Ducks were teased as “Sitting Ducks,” while the Dallas Stars were chided as “No Wing,” with an nearly empty plate and unattended net.
