Major update on defenseman Jani Hakanpaa has Leafs fans buzzing

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jani Hakanpaa earlier this off-season, but injury troubles have clouded his future, with a top insider now giving a major update.

This off-season, the Toronto Maple Leafs worked hard to make some major additions to their blue line, with Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson figuring to be key starters moving forward. The wild card of the entire situation is Jani Hakanpaa, who was also signed early in the off-season, but with question marks over his playing future, no one quite knew what was happening in Toronto.

Now, there has been a major update for the first time in a while, with TSN's Chris Johnston revealing there is optimism over Hakanpaa in Toronto, and that the likelihood of him appearing at training camp is now good.

«I'm a little more optimistic it feels as though, based on what I've pieced together, we're likely to see him at training camp. That hasn't been confirmed I still think there's a world where it happens.»

Unfortunately for Maple Leafs fans, nothing has yet been confirmed, so fans will need to remain patient and hopeful, but given we hadn't heard anything for quite some time, this being the first update to break is very positive.

However, he's been injured quite often in recent years, so the team will need to handle him properly moving forward if he is to be effective, but if he can be healthy and ready to go for opening night, it's a huge plus for a Maple Leafs team that needs things to break right on their blue line in 2024/25.
