Jarnkrok appeared in two pre-season games with the Maple Leafs before going on long-term injured reserve on Oct. 7.
It'll be a while before we see Calle Jarnkrok back in the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup.
The forward has been dealing with a lower-body injury since training camp and began the season on Toronto's long-term injured reserve. He's been on the ice before the Maple Leafs' morning skates on Tuesday and Friday, but according to the team, Jarnkrok isn't close to a return.
"It's a tough one," Craig Berube said on Saturday morning. "Right now, I can't give you a timeline on him. But, he's probably a ways away still."
The Maple Leafs haven't said much about the injury, aside from it being lower body. According to The Toronto Star's Kevin McGran, Jarnkrok is dealing with a sports hernia.
The veteran forward is eligible to return at any point as he's been out for the required 10 games and 24 days while on LTIR. Toronto still has 23 players on their active roster, and once Jarnkrok is deemed healthy, they will need to remove a player to create from for the forward.
That is unless other injuries pile up within the team.
Jarnkrok had 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 52 games with the Maple Leafs last season while playing a bottom-six role. Since joining Toronto, he has 30 goals and 30 assists in 125 games.
In 18 playoff games with Toronto, Jarnkrok has one goal and two assists while averaging 14:15 of ice time.
The Maple Leafs signed Jarnkrok to a four-year, $8.4 million contract on July 15, 2022. The deal carries a cap hit of $2.1 million.
He has 301 points (136 goals and 165 assists) in 699 career NHL games, split between the Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames, Seattle Kraken, and Maple Leafs. Jarnkrok was drafted in the second round (51st overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2010 NHL Draft.
