Marvel Executive Reveals Hopes For Potential ‘Ghost Rider’ Series In The MCU

Is Ghost Rider finally coming to the Marvel universe? An executive reveals his hopes for the character if a limited series ever gets made for the MCU.

Out of all of Marvel’s cultural heavy hitters, Ghost Rider remains the sole exception in not being adapted in the modern era of the MCU. While the character has appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nicolas Cage’s duology, the Spirit of Vengeance has ironically been trapped inside of comic book purgatory. However, it seems Marvel TV executive Brad Winderbaum has high hopes for the character if he ever got his own series.

“I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider,” Winderbaum explained in a recent interview with Collider. “I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”

Brad Winderbaum is certainly right that there are fans who would show up for Ghost Rider. For many, he’s a character that encapsulates the extreme edge of 90s comics in a way no other Marvel hero can. Bringing even an ounce of that into the MCU would provide a wildly different tone than almost any other project before it, especially if the series is focused on Danny Ketch.

Who Is Danny Ketch; The Ghost Rider?

When someone says Ghost Rider, most people think of Johnny Blaze, the daredevil who made a deal with Mephisto to save his foster father’s life in exchange for his immortal soul. MCU fans may think of Robbie Reyes, a mechanic resurrected by Blaze to continue his mission of vengeance and eventually destroy the Darkhold. Yet any comic fan from the 90s knows the award for the most metal vengeful spirit goes to Danny Ketch.

Danny Ketch was the brother of Johnny Blaze separated from him at a young age to try to protect him from the family curse of the Ghost Rider. Yet when his adoptive sister Barbara was shot by the villain Deathwatch, Ketch transformed into the Spirit of Vengeance, spreading righteous hellfire across the Marvel universe. While perhaps nothing truly original in the modern action landscape, making Ketch the MCU’s Ghost Rider could bring back the youthful bent to the character that hasn’t been prominent since the 90s.

There is currently no word on an official Ghost Rider production in the MCU. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
