Marvel Is Already Messing With Doctor Doom 2 Years Before Avengers: Doomsday

A new novel has been released by Marvel that introduces a new story for Doctor Doom, two years before the iconic villain is set to make his MCU debut in 2026's Avengers: Doomsday. Victor Von Doom continues to be one of Marvel's most prominent supervillains, as he has been since his Marvel Comics debut in 1962's The Fantastic Four #5. Over the years, Doctor Doom has formed connections with many notable superheroes, and a new Marvel novel continues this, tying him into the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's story.

Doctor Doom has shared the page with the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver several times in Marvel Comics' history, but this new story includes a dramatic change in the trio's relationship. This comes shortly after the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Doctor Doom in the MCU, with him set to have a crucial role in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars as the Multiverse Saga's new primary antagonist. Marvel's new novel could hint at a possible story for Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, which would be game-changing for the MCU.

Released in August, a new novel by Marvel, titled "What If... Wanda Maximoff and Peter Parker Were Siblings?: A Scarlet Witch Story," features a dramatic twist that could alter Doctor Doom's own story in the MCU. In the novel, SHIELD agents Mary and Richard Parker adopted the young Wanda Maximoff while on a mission in Latveria, while her brother, Pietro, was adopted by Doctor Doom. Years later, Wanda, a student of Doctor Strange and niece to Aunt May, meets her twin brother, the speedster Pietro Von Doom.

An excerpt from this alternate reality story can be found on Marvel.com, revealing exactly how Wanda Maximoff and Pietro Von Doom cross paths. In Marvel's main continuity, Doctor Doom has had a fascination with the Maximoffs for several years, so it makes sense that this would continue in alternate worlds. This could hint at the same story being told in the MCU's Phase 6, which could create the opportunity for both Pietro and Wanda Maximoff to return to the MCU. This would allow Marvel Studios to debut two very different Von Dooms.

After introducing Pietro Von Doom in a new Marvel novel, Marvel Studios will be introducing a Doctor Doom variant who looks exactly like Tony Stark in the MCU's Phase 6. While it seems Downey Jr. will be playing Victor Von Doom, there is speculation he could also be a Stark variant who became the iconic villain. This would show Marvel introducing many different iterations of Doctor Doom, twisting his mythology and playing with multiversal concepts rather than adapting his actual history, which could be a very clever move to distance this version from previous live-action disappointments.
