MCU's Scarlet Witch And Agatha Harkness Have The Same Tragic Story In New Marvel Theory

A new Agatha All Along theory reveals how Agatha Harkness and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch might not be all that different, having the same goal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Scarlet Witch's MCU timeline has included several transformative moments, with Agatha having a huge impact on Wanda Maximoff's life for a couple of reasons. In WandaVision, it was Agatha who showed Wanda her true potential as the Scarlet Witch, as well as the Darkhold. Both elements would come into play for Wanda's next MCU adventure, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Like Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff used the Darkhold to become the main villain of the Doctor Strange sequel. The movie saw Wanda fully embrace her Scarlet Witch destiny. While Wanda is seemingly dead in the MCU for now, the story of Kathryn Hahn's evil witch continues on Disney+'s Agatha All Along. The MCU series has been slowly peeling back the curtain on Agatha's past, and after some major reveals, a new theory based on the show suggests that Agatha Harkness and the Scarlet Witch have the same tragic goal in the MCU.

Agatha All Along Theory: The Witch Did Not Sacrifice Her Son

The MCU Series Has Revealed Agatha's Biggest Tragedy

Agatha All Along includes the first nods to Nicholas Scratch, Agatha's son in the comics. The show makes it seem like Nicholas is dead, having been sacrificed by Agatha so that the evil witch could acquire the Darkhold and the immense power that comes with it. However, that might not be the truth of the matter, as an intriguing new MCU theory shared on Reddit by user wilfsland suggests another event. According to the theory, Agatha might not have sacrificed Nicholas for the Darkhold, but gone after the book of spells due to her son's death.

The MCU has introduced the concept of an Absolute Point, which is an event in time that cannot be changed. The theory proposes that Nicholas Scratch's death could be an Absolute Point, and Agatha Harkness has been trying to get her son back ever since. To try and change the event, she has been stealing magic from other witches for centuries, using the Darkhold to amplify her abilities. This would make Agatha's MCU journey similar to Wanda's, as the Scarlet Witch used the Darkhold to try to get her sons back, creating a tragic link between the characters.

Every Nicholas Scratch Tease In Agatha All Along Explained

Agatha's Son Has Yet To Appear

Nicholas Scratch Reference in Agatha All Along

Nicholas Scratch has been present from the first episode of Agatha All Along, even if the character has not appeared so far. While Agatha was still trapped by the Scarlet Witch's spell, the series followed "Agnes" back into her home in Westview. There, the character entered a mysterious room, which was revealed to belong to Nicholas. Inside the room were various elements pertaining to Agatha's son, which included an award for best vocals in the children's choir, a drawing signed by "Nicky," and a teddy bear. The room was untouched, showing how Agatha preserves her son's memory in her mind.

Another possible Nicholas Scratch tease comes from Agatha All Along's mysterious locket. Agatha carries a locket with her in the series that holds a lock of someone's hair. It could belong to Nicholas, being a way for Agatha to always carry her son with her as she tries to get him back, making things even more emotional. Agatha All Along has teased that Agatha could have sacrificed her son for the Darkhold, which is a rumor that Jennifer Kale tells Teen. While hallucinating, Agatha sees the Darkhold in a crib, which could confirm the sacrifice or tease her heartbreaking quest.

The mystery surrounding Nicholas Scratch could lead to a major reveal that would come as quite a shock. The leading fan theory so far is that Joe Locke's Teen will be revealed to be Billy Kaplan, aka Wiccan, the Scarlet Witch's reincarnated son. However, Agatha All Along has teased that Teen could turn out to be Agatha's son, Nicholas, who would be right under the witch's nose without him or her knowing. In Agatha All Along's third episode, a line tested Teen possibly being Nicholas, saying, “She may not even recognize him if he showed up on her doorstep.”

Instead of getting her magic back like she initially set out to do, her reward for reaching the end of the Witches' Road could be to see her son come back to life.

However, if Teen is Wiccan, then Agatha's son could very well be dead, as has been assumed, sacrificed for the Darkhold or not. Agatha Harkness could then find a way back to him after centuries through the Witches' Road. Instead of getting her magic back like she initially set out to do, her reward for reaching the end of the Witches' Road could be to see her son come back to life. This would put an emotional end to Agatha's villain arc, succeeding where the Scarlet Witch failed, with Agatha All Along setting up a brighter future for the witch.
