New Orleans Saints bring back veteran player who deserved another chance to make an impact next season

NFL free agency is about to shake up the entire league this week. Along with FA deals, trades, restructures, and extensions will pepper the NFL, including the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans Saints bring back veteran player who deserved another chance to make an impact next season

On Sunday, the Saints brought back a depth piece to their roster from this past season. It's a move that makes sense, for a reason that mostly involves one of their most dynamic, young playmakers.

Saints bring back WR Dante Pettis

The return of Pettis will fly under the radar. That should not be a surprise, as he will just be a depth piece for the Saints' WR room. Most of Pettis' impact comes on special teams.

The Saints are signing Pettis to a one-year deal, according to sources. He's a veteran wideout, with specials teams prowess. He was a positive piece in the locker room last season as well, during a frustrating campaign for New Orleans.

Rashid Shaheed will be coming off a major injury next season. When healthy, he's among the best return men in the NFL. That being said, it is unknown how much time he will miss in preparation for the 2025 season.

With the return of Pettis, you have a safe, known option in the return game. He's got experience and played well on special teams for the Saints last season.

As for Pettis'  impact on offense, there won't be much of one, hopefully. He will most likely be active on game days for his kick and punt game abilities next year, as long as the Saints grab a couple more WR options during free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft.

Regardless, the first notable return for a player to the Saints has come for them ahead of a busy week.
