The New Orleans Saints now have a bigger quarterback conundrum. Derek Carr's future is certainly in doubt in New Orleans, and their most experienced option on the roster outside of him is the young Spencer Rattler.
Accordingly, they are doing plenty of homework on QB prospects in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. That includes work on Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, Quinn Ewers, among others.
Could Shough be the QB that Kellen Moore zeroes in on sometime in the draft? It is a possibility due to his experience, arm strength, and well-respected leadership skills. Where will he get picked, though? That's a major looming question for the whole league.
Tyler Shough's range
According to Nick Underhill, he does not think that Louisville QB Tyler Shough will make it to 40th overall. That's currently where the Saints pick in round two.
Shough visited with the Saints last Friday, April 11th. Clearly, he's on their radar. While he may not get taken with their top ten selection, a selection in round two could be on the table.
New Orleans, or another interested team, could even trade into the back end of round one to pick him as well. Only time will tell.
Saints' tough situation
New Orleans has most likely known about Carr's injury. The public perception was that he was healthy, though. With that, many fans are wondering if this backs the Saints into a corner, one that would push them to take a QB earlier than they would prefer.
Quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for the upcoming season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday afternoon.
Carr is weighing his options -- including the possibility of surgery, per Rapoport. The Saints hold the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be impacted heavily by Carr's shoulder and decision on how to proceed.

According to Russini, it sounds like New Orleans has been prepping for this outcome. It was not a shock to them, and that's why they have been connected to multiple QB prospect expected to go in the first three rounds of the draft.
Doesn't sound like the Saints will waste any time trying to find a potential long-term answer for Carr's exit from the starting role.
